Diagnosis: Cancer of the Left Breast. Histology: Partly solid, partly adenopapillar Breast Cancer.
Treatment: Mastectomy left side, post-operative radiation.
Standard/ Conventional Treatment
August 1958
First local recurrence, carcinoma in scar tissue.
Histology: Solid carcinoma.
Treatment: Surgery, no post-operative radiation.
September to October 1958
Second local recurrence and metastases. Plum-sized swelling in the scar; cherry-sized lymphoma in the left supraclavicular fossa; small lymphoma in the left abdominal wall.
No Standard Treatment.
October 1959
Issels Treatment: 13 weeks in-patient and 3 months out-patient treatment.
January 1960
Remission.
August to September 1960
Metastatic third recurrence. Plum-sized tumor above the operation scar; plum-sized tumor in the right breast; multiple small lymphomas in supra-and infraclavicular fossae.
September to October 1960
Issels Treatment: 6 weeks in-patient treatment (immunobiological treatment combined with low dose chemotherapy on 19 days) and several months of immunobiological out-patient follow-up treatment. On Sept. 13, excision of the tumor in the scar.
Histology: Partly carcinoma adenomatosum cribosum, partly solid Carcinoma.
October to November 1960
Regression of metastases. Complete remission.
Follow-up until 1971
11 years cancer free without any recurrence, patient leading normal life.
